Create a Member or Guest Account

Two types of user accounts are available on Boardgame News: Members and Guests.

Members

BGN memberships cost $25 for 12 months. Members receive the following benefits:
  • Access to previews for the Nuremberg and Essen game conventions with exclusive designer interviews,
  • Occasional discounts from game publishers,
  • Ability to comment on news items and columns, and
  • A chance to win free games in drawings that take place roughly once a month; your chance of winning is based on the number of members at the end of the month.
Three randomly-chosen BGN members will win one of the following items at the end of May 2008:
  • Jamaica: A fun family game that has players racing pirates around the Caribbean in order to score gold and raid opponents' ships. I wrote an overview of the game in one of my columns This game has limited distribution for now, but thanks to the generosity of its publisher, GameWorks, BGN had five to give away. Only one copy remains, and perhaps this will be your lucky month.

  • Ca$h'n Gun$: Yakuza: An unopened review copy of the first expansion for Asmodée's incredibly fun Ca$h'n Gun$. Everyone's still a crook eager to divvy up the loot, but now you're working in teams, focusing your ire (and gunfire) on those who would deny you your fair share. Will you be one of the original gangsters from the base game or part of the new Yakuza team in this expansion? Eat throwing star! (I picked up a copy from Repos at Spiel '07, so I'm passing this one on to someone else. June 1 could be your lucky day!)

  • Kill the Hippies: A family not-so-friendly game of hippie-bashing at the hands of overly eager fundamentalists. For more on this "take that" game that brings peace to no one, visit the publisher's webpage.
To become a BGN Member, click and head to the registration page. Note: You must use your real first and last name as your Screen Name. Once you have registered, click on—

Then use your credit card or PayPal account to submit your $25 membership fee.

If you prefer not to deal with PayPal, you can mail a check or money order made out to either W. Eric Martin or Boardgame News to:

You can also donate additional funds to help support Boardgame News. Or, more specifically, to support me, the BGN editor. I'd love to spend all of my working hours on BGN—posting news, interviewing designers, reviewing games, completing all the secret projects on my to-do list—but at this point, I still need to write articles on packing stations and cable network improvements and other non-game-related topics. As you might imagine, I greatly appreciate all support, and thank you for reading.
Guests

Anyone with a BGN Guest account can comment on news items and columns, but you receive no other benefits—no looking at the unbelievably massive and comprehensive Nuremberg and Essen previews; no chance of winning cool games in the random drawings; no warm feeling inside late at night.

If you can somehow survive with those benefits, click and head to the registration page to create a BGN Guest account. Note: You must use your real first and last name as your Screen Name.

What Happens Next?
Once you have completed the registration form—whether as Member or Guest—you'll receive an email with a link you must click in order to finalize your account. You'll then receive an automated message welcoming you to BGN and restressing the benefits of Membership. (Yes, I'm shameless.) If you want to become a member, the link will bring you back to this page so that you hit the Subscribe button above.

Once you've activated the account, you may then use the Username and Password you chose during the registration to log in to the site (using the LOGIN button on the Home page). Members will have access to the current Convention Preview and be entered into the current month's drawing for free games (as well as drawings in future months, of course).

Questions?
If you still have questions about Membership or anything else, please email me at subscriptions@boardgamenews.com.

Yours in gaming,
W. Eric Martin
