Convention Report: Origins 2006: Wrap-Up

Convention Report: Origins 2006: July 1, 2006 (Day 3)

Convention Report: Origins 2006: June 30, 2006 (Day 2)

This morning was a little more rushed than usual - I woke up a little later than expected and then madly wrote up yesterday’s report so I could be at the Exhibit Hall by 9:00 - an hour before it opened. Origins has arranged it so the press gets into the Exhibit Hall a hour early on both on the first and second days and I wanted to take advantage of this. The early start gives us press people a chance to get some quiet time with the exhibitors before the mobs descend. I posted Part 2 of yeterday’s report and then ran down to the convention center.

Convention Report: Origins 2006: June 29, 2006 - Part 2 (Day 1)

After finishing editing and posting the video and the first part of this report, it was time to head back down to the Exhibit Hall. I visited a few publishers and got the latest scoop on their games.

Convention Report: Origins 2006: June 29, 2006 - Part 1 (Day 1)

Today is the first official day of Origins 2006. This morning I got up early to get yesterday’s report written and uploaded. I ended up finishing it just in time to dash down to the Exhibit Hall when it opened for the press. The press is let into the hall an hour before it’s opened to everyone else - this gives us a chance to do some interviews, take some pictures, etc, while it’s still relatively quiet.

I grabbed the opportunity to get some video (see my video report), take some notes and get some pictures (see the pictures below). Note that the pictures were taken just as the booths were being finished up. When the mobs were finally let in it was pandemonium as everyone poured in and dashed to whatever booth they were seeking.

Convention Report: Origins 2006: June 29, 2006 (Day 1) - Video

Here’s a video report from the first day of Origins 2006. In this video I show the main areas of the convention, concentrating on the big Exhibit Hall which holds all the dealer booths. The video of the Exhibit Hall was taken in the final hour before the mobs were let in, so some of the booths were still being finished. I also got shots of some of the main game rooms plus the Board Room and the War Room. The video is available in WMV format and is also available in a smaller file that is in a lower resolution.. Convention Report: Origins 2006: June 28, 2006 (Setup Day)

It’s time for yet another game convention and this time it’s Origins 2006, which is taking place from June 29th to July 2nd 2006 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. This is one of the biggies and it hosts many different types of hobby games - collectible card games, live action roleplaying games, miniatures, roleplaying games, wargames and, of course, boardgames (known at Origins as ‘Tabletop Games’).

Today is not really an official day of the convention (it really starts tomorrow), but I had arrived last night and took the time to come down today to check out what was happening. I’m conveniently located at a hotel across the street from the convention center and around noon I wandered over.
