With snow, snow and yet more snow in the forecast, I decided to cut out of Toy Fair in the afternoon of the third day. Luckily for me, I had explored most of the Javits Center on the first two days, so covering the final ground wouldn’t take too long.

One aspect of the Fair that I missed, probably due to inexperience, were the various off-site locations, that is, toy and game companies in Manhattan that had opened up their businesses to nosy reporters. As such, I saw nary a hex of Heroscape or any other Hasbro items. Thankfully, Erik Arneson from About.com was on the case, and he has published gallery images of the Heroscape: Swarm of Marro Master Set, Marvel Heroscape (which is now due May 2007), and assorted other Hasbro titles.

For day two at the New York Toy Fair, I decided to canvas the upper level from one end to the other, examining interesting games whenever one happened to stand out from all the dolls, plush and kites—and keeping my eye out for goofiness when my GameDar was silent. Rick must have been cursed.

That’s the only logical explanation I can imagine. For the past few years, Rick Thornquist has attended the New York Toy Fair only to encounter driving snows, terrible colds, and William Hung. This year, I took the train south from Poughkeepsie, walked from Grand Central to the cavernous Javits Center (noticing a crumpled newspaper with an article by my wife looking up at me from a gutter), and breezed through the press center registration process. The press center even had mounds of pastries waiting for starving journalists!
