A Treasure Trove of Expansions from alea

For the company’s tenth anniversary, German publisher alea is releasing Schatzkiste (aka Treasure Chest), a set of ten expansions for six of the 21 titles that it has released over the past decade. The titles being expanded are:

  • Puerto Rico and San Juan, which will both have new buildings as well as another “gimmick.”
  • Notre Dame, which will have nine additional persons who can be bribed for special favors.
  • In the Year of the Dragon, which will see the Great Wall of China come into play in addition to having new events that can afflict players.
  • Wie Verhext!, which will receive cards for a sixth player, a set of amulets (to make the game with fewer players more exciting), and magic abilities for each player at the start of the game.
  • Louis XIV, which provides characters who will open up new possibilities.
Schatzkiste, which retails for €20, is scheduled to be released by the end of April 2009.

Update, Jan. 25: Jay Tummelson at Rio Grande Games has confirmed that he will release Schatzkiste in English. No word on what the title will be or when it might appear in print.

Lets hope for an English version.  I’m a sucker for expansions… I get more “game” without having to significantly increase the space taken up by said boxes…

Well… we can notice influence of Sebastien Pauchon’s work on Jamaica: The cover is very similar… ;-)

nice! I enjoy the current Puerto Rico expansion and I enjoy the idea of a “gimmick” : D

I feel as though this will force my hand to purchase two games that have been on my wish list for some time: ITYOFD and Louis XIV.
