Aaron Lawn: Not present at all.

Well, It’s not so much a column as an apology, but these final two months of the year leave me spending most of my non-working non-gaming time on the non-writing.

So, while I have done plenty enough of the gaming, and have plenty enough things to write about, the time and focus to set them down on the electronic page has been lacking.  Because complaining and griping is easy, especially in a confrontational format, here’s my five minute recap of all-things retail over the past four weeks.  In special bonus sarcastic voice!

Yes.  I also have heard that the economy is down.  Just like the twelve other people who have just left my counter, you have also seen fit to inform me of this fact.  Unfortunately, I really don’t want to chat about it very much, so I apologize for being brusque.

Despite the fact that it is listed at the top of the family section in the newspaper, Dominion is not the best game to buy for your family with an 8 year old and a very smart 6 year old.1

Through thick and thin, you can always count on LCR.  Bunco was just a fad.  LCR has proven the test of time.

Pass the Pigs (also known as Pigmania) wins the prize as “game most likely to never have its real name known”.  Actual title - That game with pigs.  Alternate title - The Makin’ Bacon game.

While Haba games are great, the tiny little english titles on the german-centric boxes are not actually very helpful in convincing a prospective buyer that you do not need to know a foreign language to play this game..

I am surprised how many people refuse to buy Stratego because it no longer has the old-skool napoleonicesque art.  Life (the game of) hasn’t had that problem.

Releasing a game on December 18th, while technically prior to xmas, does mean that some people will have already chosen other holiday gifts.  It also means I’m liable to order less, since new titles aren’t my priority in the 11th hour of providing to the december shoppers.

And that’s about all I’ve got time for.  I’ll try to get some more game-centric thoughts in line for January.  Android, Jet Set, and Le Havre have all shown promise as writing topics, though I am certain that not all will survive.

and only one footnote.  Sigh.

1Though credit where credit is due, dedicating 5 pages to board games is never a bad thing.  Hooray.

Hmm, I don’t remember a version of Life with old-skool napoleonicesque art.  Must have been after my time.
