Age of Conan: the first scupltures unveiled
The Stygian Emissary and the Hyperborean Army figures are two good samples of the detailed miniatures that will be featured in the game
The first images of the sculptures created for the “Age of Conan” Board Game are finally unveiled. The game is due to be released in Summer 2008 and each one of the four factions represented - Aquilonia, Turan, Stygia and Hyperborea – will have two different types of figures, an Emissary figure and a Army unit, each with a unique sculpture.

The second sculpture is a Hyperborean Army figure, that stands taller than any other warrior from the other Kingdoms, and is based upon the visuals created by Dark Horse Comics for the gigantic and brutal Gurnakhi warriors. “The way Hyperboreans have been depicted in the most recent cycle of Conan comics is just incredible - there were many interpretations in the past about how this land and its inhabitants look like, and we decided that the one created in these stories is really the best!”, explained Di Meglio. |
The original sculptures are about 18/20 cm tall, but afterwards will be transformed by a pantographing process which scales them down and engraves them in a steel mould, where hot plastic is injected to create small figures, about 25 mm tall - a similar size to the figures of “War of the Ring”. Looking at the beauty of these first figures, imagine how incredibly detailed these small masterpieces will be!
“Age of Conan” is a massive new strategy board game based on the famous hero created by R.E. Howard and designed by the same team of the award-winning “War of the Ring” board game (Maggi, Nepitello and Di Meglio). The greatest nations of the Hyborian Age will fight at the command of the players, in a strife for supremacy, using armies, magic and gold to subjugate and conquer; but Conan the Barbarian, the greatest Hero of this age, may turn the tide in favour or against any player. The game will feature lots of miniatures, a huge map of the Hyborian Age and top level components.

Wile these do indeed look great, the amount of detail you can get with plastic is limited. So when these will get scaled down, detail will inevitably get lost. They’ll probably still look great though! Posted by Surya Van Lierde on Apr 16, 2008 at 07:45 AM | #
