Alfred Wallace: Good Guys 3, Pond Scum 1
I’m not in Essen. I don’t really have any neat pictures, videos, or tales of finding a non-vermin-infested hostel in a German industrial city.
For that matter, I don’t have much of anything. The Cardinals just won the pennant (referenced in the title above); I have a thesis that needs writing; gaming has fallen by the wayside.
I’m taking a mulligan this week. Join me, will you, in poring over all the glorious reports streaming in from Essen…
Double-length next week, I promise…

I had no real rooting interest last nite and was really just looking for a good game. No matter who you root for though, the catch by Chavez in the 8th inning was absolutely spectacular and stunning. If the Mets end up winning that game, it goes down in baseball history along with Mays’ over the shoulder catch as best ever. Posted by Craig Massey on Oct 20, 2006 at 08:18 AM | #

Hey, them’s fightin’ words, LaRussa lover! Congratulations on the victory. The Mets were the better team over the course of the season, but the Cards picked the right time to get hot (particularly their pitchers) and I honestly feel they are the better team right now. It should be a fun Series. And with the Mets gone, maybe I can now get to bed at a decent hour! Craig, you’re absolutely right about that catch. Even in a losing cause, it’s right up there with the all-time greats. Chavez would have been the toast of the town if the Mets had managed to win. Even with the loss, I’m sure it will be replayed more than a few times. Posted by Larry Levy on Oct 20, 2006 at 08:54 AM | #

"LaRussa Lover” may be something of a stretch, as my antacid bills every summer and fall will attest. It was, indeed, a heck of a catch. The sixth was quite an adventure for Mr. Rolen… I’m amazed that the Mets basically managed to shut down Rolen, Edmonds, Carpenter, and Pujols--and the Cardinals managed to win by the sweat of the brows of So Taguchi, Scott Spiezio, Jeff Suppan, and Yadier Molina. Totally bizarre series (and season) for the Cardinals… Posted by Alfred Wallace on Oct 20, 2006 at 09:24 AM | #
