Aronda – New from Clemens Gerhards
Clemens Gerhards, maker of stylish all-wood abstract games, will be at Spiel 08 with – guess what? – a stylish all-wood abstract game, specifically one co-designed by Michail Antonow and Jens-Peter Schliemann.

Aronda is an area majority game with a connection element. The board contains 25 fields, all but the center having an odd number of adjacent fields. On a turn, you put two placement pieces on fields in the outer ring or in fields that connect to the outer ring through pieces of your own color. As soon as you have 2-4 pieces in a field, with the exact number depending on the field, you take possession of that space and mark it.
Doing so might set off chain reactions for if you now own two fields adjacent to field A with only three neighbors, for example, you now claim field A as well. This might set off another land grab, and so on. The game ends once all 25 fields are owned, and the player holding the majority wins.
