Ask daVinci Games: After Leonardo Comes…
Q: After Leonardo, are you planning to produce other “big-box” games, or is daVinci reverting to its main buisness of small games?
A: Leonardo was just the beginning—from now on, we are going to continue this line of gamers’ games. The next one is called Gonzaga, and it will be shown in prototype form during the Essen and Lucca conventions.
In the meanwhile, we will keep publishing some “small” games, as well as some “medium” games as in the past; see for example Lucca Città, Oriente, Fredericus or Palatinus… or the upcoming F.A.T.A.L. and Borneo games. Those are all card games, or games in a little box, but they are far more gamer-oriented than, say, the games in our Allegro line (Figaro, Beetlez, Abracadabra, etc.).
Q: What made you want to become a game publisher?
A: The answer to this may become veeeery long, so I will just fire a burst of quick answers that are all valid at the same time:
- All of us are gamers in the first place, so we wanted to be part of it.
- Most of us started working for an Italian gaming magazine called GiocAreA, then we decided to take a further step.
- There were only a few Italian publishers when we started in 2001, and we had some great games (like Emiliano Sciarra’s BANG!) almost ready, so we chose to publish them.
- With the Internet still growing it looked like a great moment to start making games and selling them worldwide and to start a website.

*for Nathan*: it looks like the groupies only appear from nowhere when you win a Spiel des Jahres award.
(I’m glad my wife does not read BGN!)
