Ask Days of Wonder: Old Favorites
Q: How are your older (non-TTR) games such as Mystery of the Abbey and Pirate’s Cove doing? Do you expect to keep them in print for a while?
A: They have turned into very nice, evergreen products for us. While we do run out of them periodically—we’ve struggled to keep Pirate’s Cove in print each of the past three years, for instance, always ending up running short despite increasing print-runs—we reprint them on a regular basis.
Q: Are there any updates on the Pirate’s Cove mini-expansion that was announced quite a while back?
A: Nope, there is nothing to report on the horizon here.
Q: Have you ever tried to get some of your games into venues such as museum/zoo gift shops, Discovery Channel stores, etc.? It seems that many of the ones with historical (or animal or railroad) themes would be a great fit for such places.
A: We do. You will, for instance, find copies of Memoir ‘44 at numerous museums on the landing beaches of Normandy and we recently had a couple of Overlord events at the WWII museum in New Orleans. Likewise, you will find Ticket to Ride in numerous train museum gift shops across the US. We haven’t quite found too many Dwarven or Goblin focused shops yet, but we’re working on it ;-)
The downside with this channel is that it is often quite fragmented, and thus fairly costly and difficult to reach effectively. —Eric Hautemont

This is good. All of the questions I am too lazy to ask. Good Job, Eric. Posted by Ryan Bretsch on Sep 24, 2007 at 09:51 PM | #

I’ve seen copies of Zug um Zug/Ticket to Ride available in the shop for a large model railroad set-up in Berlin. The largest model railroad (and most elaborate) in the world, in Hamburg, would be a great place to sell those games, given the long lines of visitors, but unfortunately didn’t have them in their extensive shop when we were there.
