Ask Fantasy Flight: Boardgames? Who Needs ‘Em?

Q: How popular are your CCG & RPG games? Do you see a growing trend in the demand for these?

A: The A Game of Thrones World Championships at this year’s Gen Con was the largest field in years! There seem to be a lot of people that are just now discovering the game, and when the new novel in the series is published, I’m sure its popularity will only increase!

We’ve instituted a new program called the “Wandering Crow” (a book reference), where Luke Reed has been traveling to game shops and conventions all over the country, running AGOT demos and tournaments. These have proven to be very successful, and it helps us add a personal touch for someone just trying the game for the first time.

The RPG business has been slowing across the board over the last few years, but we’re still forging ahead with new Midnight sourcebooks, plus new games like Anima and Grimm. —Jeremy Stomberg
