Ask Z-Man Games: Please Lie on the Couch
Q: How long has Z-Man been around, and is it a one man operation, like Rio Grande?
A: I incorporated in 1999, but published the first game in August 2000. And yep, it is just me—and a whole lot of talented help: artists, graphic designers, game designers, etc. I’m really tired :)
Q: Have you ever tried to get some of your games into venues such as museum/zoo gift shops, Discovery Channel stores, etc.? It seems that many of the ones with historical (or animal or railroad) themes would be a great fit for such places.
A: Yes, but not the way I should be. Meaning I should be calling museums and zoos (and aquariums - Reef Encounter anyone?) directly, but since I’m the only one at Z-Man I just don’t have the time to do this. I’d love to get a salesperson to make these calls for me—anyone interested for some commission? Also, the reality is the price point—many of these places wouldn’t be that interested in a $50 game. I do try to push my distributors to contact such places and one actively goes to educational conventions. —Zev Shlasinger
