Bacchus, Coming from Gryphon Games
Bacchus is a new game from designer Alex Zucchini (Walhalla, Lucca Citta, Volle Wolle) that will be released by FRED Distribution in March or April 2009. Players are satyrs who are responsible for assembling maenads – the female followers of Bacchus, aka Dionysus – for a few bacchanalias. (Note that no flesh will be eaten during these frenzies, raw or otherwise.)
Each maenad wears one of five differently-colored outfits, and they’re arranged in rows awaiting the attention of you and your fellow satyrs. On a turn, you either draw an action card or use one. When you use an action card, you either send particular maenads in any one row to particular bacchanalias or kidnap maenads that depict a satyr on them. After all, to get credit for your finds with the God of Wine, you’ll want to hold onto a few of these women for yourself as proof that you’ve done your job well. Maenads that depict Bacchus symbols can be moved to different rows prior to the playing of an action card, giving you more control. Whichever player holds the most maenads of a particular color at the end of the game scores all the points for that color, in addition to points for those he kidnapped.
The cover depicted above is not final. Bacchus has been added to Gone Cardboard.
