Blokus to Move to Mattel?

The word on game industry forums is that Blokus and its related titles are moving from Educational Insights to Mattel starting in 2009. Neither company has returned calls requesting confirmation or denial of this news, and it’s not clear how the newly released Blokus 3D fits into the picture as that game is based on Rumis and not an original member of the Sekkoïa line of games, Sekkoïa being the licensor of Blokus.

Update, Nov. 17, 23:30 EST: Michelle at Mattel contacted me to confirm that Mattel is picking up both Blokus and Travel Blokus. She’s “pretty sure” that Blokus 3D will also be part of the deal, but she’s checking on that information as well as the status of Blokus Trigon. The titles will be part of Mattel’s Fall 2009 line-up, which means the games will debut with the Mattel label in July 2009, according to her.

Out of curiosity, what does that mean for Blokus Trigon? or the Blokus website where you can play online, would Mattel shut that down?
