Bruno Faidutti’s Bongo Reborn as Haunted House

Bruno Faidutti’s dice game Bongo was first published in 2000. In Bongo, players roll a set of dice, then try to be the first to call out the name of the “right” animal, with various rules determining what makes an animal right. Sometimes the right animal will be pictured, and sometimes it won’t, so you need to observe and process everything quickly in order to figure out the right answer.

Bongo has now been converted into an online Flash game called Haunted House by Emanuele Ornella, designer of Assyria, Martinique and Hermagor, among other games. Hermagor was the last title released by Ornella’s own Mind the Move, but he intends to use that company name to present “casual” video games that can be played online. Says Ornella, “The goal is to have games that can be played in the browser for free. Because there are so many Flash games over the world, the main target is to have games with nice mechanisms, not only match-3 type of games, or Tetris clones.”

Haunted House is based on Bongo with artwork by Mattia Mentastro, but has been converted into a single-player game in which you must slay the right monster for points, with games lasting no more than sixty seconds. The “Exorcist” level of play matches the rules of Bongo, but two simpler levels have been added in order to ease players up to that level of difficulty. To try the game, visit the Mind the Move website.

Ornella plans to follow up this project with online versions of titles from Cocktail Games, as well as versions of these games for the iPhone.

Great game!
I scored more than Emanuele Ornella himself, and now I want to buy a copy of Faidutti’s Bongo.
Everyone’s a winner!  :)

Uh, oh, this can easily go overboard… now I had to score more than Emanuele AND more than Silvano :) And, to keep the competitive tone, I want to buy Bongo more than Silvano :)

Who is next? :)

You can also buy more COPIES of Bongo than me! :)
(by the way, it looks it’s not easy to find a copy of the game here in Italy...)

I see that you can’t get a negative score… ;) (Despite my “best” efforts...)

Yes, no negative score - it’s a well known selling trick ;-). All gamers are good at it - only some of them are better.
