Cartel “On Hold” at Immortal Eyes
In January 2008, I published a news item about a new edition of Phil Orbanes’ Cartel – first published in the 1970s by Gamut of Games – being in the works from Immortal Eyes Games. That game has now been put on hold indefinitely and has consequently be removed from Gone Cardboard.

I’m not surprised this has been put on hold. It was a great game in its day (when there weren’t very many games) but the luck element of which cards one drew - drawing cards whose sites were close together on the board giving you a major advantage - I can’t see being acceptable today. Unless the rules were changed, of course. Posted by Derek Carver on Sep 26, 2008 at 04:24 AM | #

Well, it’s been quite a while since I’ve played Cartel, so I’d like to try it again to make sure I’m seeing it with 21st century eyes. But I absolutely enjoyed the hell out of it 20 years ago and I was just as allergic to high-luck systems then as I am today. It was one of my all-time favorite games then and I still rate it highly. Personally, I’d love to see a reprint to see how well it would hold up. Posted by Larry Levy on Sep 26, 2008 at 08:58 AM | #
