Confucius Shipping Update

Game designer Alan Paull has passed along the following message: “Surprised Stare Games’ latest release, Confucius, was launched at UK Games Expo ‘08. Unfortunately only a small number of copies were available at that time. We will be taking delivery of further copies by the end of June and our final stock in July.” To learn more about the game, you can read my write-up of Confucius following the UK Games Expo.

Having paid for a pre-order copy I was one of the lucky ones.  Although not yet played I can tell folks that the quality is top notch. So if you’ve read the rules and think it a game for you, you’ll not be disappointed when you open the box.

As an aside, the game revolves around the topic of buying favours in high places.  About 40 years ago I met an ex UK diplomat who told me that during his time in China, when one wished to see such a person a tray was presented on which to place your visiting card.  But under the tray was a drawer!  You can guess what the drawer was for.

Played this at the Expo and was quite impressed. I got 2 copies there, one for me and one for a friend who asked really nicely to get him one. I will have my copy at Origins if anyone wants to try it. It looks like a 2-2.5 hour game with teaching newbies. Should settle in at >2 hours with experience, but there is so much going on that I may never get that much experience!
