Contest: The Modena Cathedral … in a game.

The Libraries of Modena, in cooperation with IDG, announce a competition for the creation of a card game based on Modena Cathedral’s imaginary world.

In order to access the competition, candidates must create a game set in the Middle Ages, featuring Modena Cathedral as its main theme.

The game must require at least two players, last no more than one hour and be made of maximum 110 cards divided into one or two decks, rules not included. Nothing else must be necessary to play: only sheets of paper and a pen to sign the scores.

A prototype of the game must be sent by second-class mail or recorded delivery to the following address: Biblioteche del Comune di Modena – Corso Canalgrande 103, 41100 Modena. All games must arrive no later than the 4th September 2008. The postmark will prove the validity of the arrival.

The jury will examine the games and announce the winner by the 19th September 2008. The organization will not be responsible for games not arrived at destination.

The jury will measure all games by the following criterion:

* level of playability
* connection to the theme
* originality
* simplicity of regulations

The contest winner will be given a prize during the Play Festival held in Modena from 26th to 28th September 2008.

The prize-winning game will be published in the following months. The author of the game will receive 50 copies of his game. Further copies might be printed for publicity and will remain propriety of the Libraries of Modena, which will supervise the cards’ graphics. The author will keep rights of utilization to his game. In case the game proves especially worthy, the Libraries of Modena might offer the author a contract for a wider professional publication.

By sending their games, the authors accept the present announcement and declare they have not infringed other people’s copyrights.
