Convention Preview News: QWG’s Master Print Series Open for Preorders
QWG Games will have all four of its Master Print Series titles—Leonardo da Vinci, Yspahan, El Capitan and Demetra—on sale at Spiel 07. “Those games are limited editions and because there is a lot of international interest in these masterpieces, it could be wise to pre-order the games for Essen Fair,” says Jonny de Vries, who is not a character in a William Gibson novel but rather the QWG CEO.

The retail price of each game is €36.95, but at Spiel they’ll be sold for €30. Buy all four titles, and the price drops to €100. To preorder, send your name, address, and other information to info@qwggames.nl.

Wow, 100 for all four seems like a pretty nice deal… if only I was going to be there (and shipping would probably negate the good deal). Not that this is alone among the many things I’d like to get if I was going to be there (such as the plethora of AoS maps). Posted by Tom Rosen on Sep 23, 2007 at 11:13 AM | #

Maybe I just didn’t read some of the older articles on the Master Print Series very carefully, but I’m still confused which language the games will be published in. In the convention preview the QWG games are listed as Dutch language only. Is that correct or will the Master Print Series also be available in English? Only in Dutch. QWG only has the rights for the Dutch edition of the games. For some of the games that shouldn’t be a problem as the rules are available online. Posted by Surya Van Lierde on Sep 23, 2007 at 11:57 AM | #

Manuel, the games in the Master Print Series will be available in other languages from other publishers, but the QWG version is mostly Dutch only. Demetra, for example, will be published as Key Harvest by R&D Games/Rio Grande (English) and Abacusspiele (German), while the QWG edition will have rules in Dutch and French. El Capitan will have Dutch rules in the QWG edition, while the game is also available from Pro Ludo (German), Ystari Games (French), Z-Man Games (English), and Lautapelit (Scandanavian countries). QWG’s hook for the Master Print series is a matching bookcase-style design by Mike Doyle that won’t be available from other publishers. Doyle has designed a somewhat different cover for the non-QWG versions of El Capitan, for example, while the other versions of Demetra/Key Harvest will have a cover and interior artwork by Juliet Breese. (Breese still does the interior of Demetra.) Posted by W. Eric Martin on Sep 23, 2007 at 12:12 PM | #

I read that all of the Master Print Series were language-independent. However, images of the Demetra components clearly show quite a bit of text on the tiles. Will the QWD edition have completely different, language-independent components? Posted by Dan Corban on Sep 23, 2007 at 02:06 PM | #

Anyone know if the art on the Yspahan board is different or just the cover? Posted by Lorna Wong on Sep 23, 2007 at 02:42 PM | #

Dan, apparently the Demetra tiles will have Dutch text as is shown in this image: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/234991. Lorna, I believe that the art on the Yspahan board is the same as originally published, as is the case with Leonardo da Vinci. I’ll double-check with the publisher on these questions. Posted by W. So far as artwork is concerned, I’m guessing that just the “spine” of the box will be different, with the QWG titles forming a numbered series? The box “front” art for El Capitan shown on the Z-Man site looks the same. Will Ystari, Pro Ludo and Z-Man have their versions of El Capitan at Essen? By the way, Eric there’s a link to the rules on the Z-Man site that you might want to add to the Essen preview. Posted by Andy Parsons on Sep 24, 2007 at 02:00 AM | #

Ystari will probabbly have is own (french) version of El Capitan at Essen (and probably RFTG too). About the art of Yspahan, please note that only the cover differs in the Quined version. The interior art is not changed.

Indeed, the Yspahan and Leonardo components are identical to the other language versions, it’s only a different box. As for the El Capitan box: the Z-Man Games edition looks very similar but is actually different. The QWG edition will have the border around the image like all Master Print games, the other editions will not have the border around the image, the image will stretch to the borders of the box front.
