Convention Report: The Gathering of Friends 2009: Reports from Around the Net

A number of attendees at the 2009 Gathering of Friends have written or talked about the games they played, with reports typically highlighting games that have been released within the past six months.

Geeklists
• Erin O’Malley wins the award for persistence by playing many days on little sleep. She twittered about the game during the event, and compiled thoughts on all the games afterward.

• Joe Casadonte posts his highlights and lowlights, focusing mostly on the high.

• Jeff DePseudonym catalogs his playlist.

• Zack Boatman does the same with his.

• Patrick Korner details his weekend in games, including a peek at the new version of Airlines that should be out within the next year.

• Randy Cox brings a statistical bent to his Gathering coverage: minutes played, people trounced, etc.

• Ravindra Prasad stops snoozing long enough to reel out his games played along with short descriptions of many new games.

• Lorna Wong covers ten days of gaming in a short span.

Picture and Video Galleries
• Nataline Viray-Fung has a whacked-out collection of staged photos, some of which you might expect people to pay for them not to appear in print.

• Trond Braut has a few dozen pictures with short- to medium-length descriptions. If you can read Norwegian, then you’ll find longer descriptions for each item.

• James and Shiela Davis have both a video – one of six created as part of a twentieth anniversary contest – as well as a photo gallery. No comments on the pics, so you’re largely on your own, but the first images show Repos’ 3D Ghost Stories for use at conventions and a custom-designed Merchants of Venus.

• Frank and Susan Wimmer have also posted their entry in the video contest. It’s fuzzy, but clear enough to see what’s going on.

Other Coverage
• Dave Chalker has highlighted his three favorite games.

• Erik Arneson briefly describes seven games released over the past year, then follows up a fw days later with another seven games. Forget to mention something when writing about Der Hexer von Salem, Erik?!

• Frank Branham posts two reports on various games at Fortress: Ameritrash.

• Doug Garrett recorded five podcasts while at the Gathering, including one that discusses what will likely be the 2009 release from Vlaada Chvatil and Czech Games Edition.

• Chris Kovac eschews the Geeklist format and posts his game summaries in a BGG thread.

Clearly, Erik is the Lovecraftian equivalent to a Cylon. ;)

That was one of my Gathering highlights, though - great game.

The custom-designed Merchants of Venus was the one I made for the prize table that Lorna Wong got.
