Dale Yu: Reorganizing the Basement
Well it’s been a busy week here at the homestead… My basement remodeling is just about complete, and I’m in the process of moving all of the games back inside from the garage where they’ve been stored for the past 8 weeks. It’s a fairly painful process as I’ve lost about 40% of my total storage space due to the renovations… The good news is that my games are now being displayed in a “public” portion of the house as opposed to being crammed into a storage closet in the basement. I’m having to triage each game to decide whether it’s good enough to stay in the collection or not—and I’m likely going to have a firesale at some point to move the extras out!
I’m also taking the time to finally catalog (and count) the collection! I honestly hadn’t made any sort of count or list of my games in about 8 years. I had always guessed that I had around 800 games, so we’ll have to see how close my estimates were to the reality! (And, I’ve already sold or traded about 200 games in the past year getting ready for this huge transistion)… The basement and the games are pretty much taking all of my time this week—more details (and hopefully pictures of the new home for the game) next week!
Until your next appointment,

Dale; I feel your pain. I’m currently in the process of cleaning/clearing a room in my basement that will eventually become the game room/man cave. This effort, however, is hampered by two facts: a) I have not actually entered this room for a purpose other than dumping stuff in about 3 years, and b) Much of the stuff that was dumped are thrift store games that kind of take up a lot of space. Sigh. pk Posted by Patrick Korner on May 1, 2008 at 05:49 PM | #

Patrick, I cleaned up about 40 “thrift store specials” in the past week - mainly be cannibalizing the boards and bits into a single box to be saved for prototypes and replacements, and then throwing the rest out to the trash! It was cathartic (in a good way) Dale Posted by Dale Yu on May 2, 2008 at 10:43 AM | #
