Decipher Games Discovers Drugs, Pyramids, Fighting
I first ran across this item on Tuesday, but with April Fools’ Day on the mind, I thought waiting a couple of days would be prudent to see whether this gag disappeared. It didn’t, so here’s a few words on the first CCG to have an intentional pyramid-style marketing plan.
At the beginning of May 2008, Decipher Games will launch Fight Klub, a collectible card game (CCG) sold directly to customers – but not just to anyone, mind you. No, the first 6,000 people will be chosen from those who apply online, and everyone else who might want to play the game has to be sponsored by one of those members, who will earn 10% of whatever this inductee spends. The game will be sold in 121 card Kilos (wink, wink) for $30 each instead of starters and booster packs.
Ladies, Decipher is also looking for Fight Klub Girls, so don’t feel left out.
To immerse yourself in this crazy marketing plan, head the start page of Fight Klub, orFightKlüb, as it’s sometimes spelled.
And no, I’m not a founding member trying to suck you into Project Mayhem…

Surely that has GOT to be a joke. “Players are empowered to drive the game’s success” ??? Vote: Hoax. Posted by Melissa Rogerson on Apr 3, 2008 at 09:54 AM | #

It seems as Decipher is willing to try anything to get you to buy their product, or at least anything short of actually trying to make good games. Posted by Chris Farrell on Apr 3, 2008 at 11:22 AM | #

I can imagine the rulebook: 1. Don’t talk about Fight Klub. So how are you going to recruit anyone? :) Posted by Tor Iver Wilhelmsen on Apr 4, 2008 at 11:54 AM | #

What to do if no distributor is willing to work with you anymore? Sell directly to customers using some pyramid scheme. Really attractive… not. Posted by Surya Van Lierde on Apr 7, 2008 at 10:02 AM | #
