Diplomacy Returning in a New Edition by Spring 2008

A new edition of Diplomacy will be part of the Avalon Hill line-up for 2008. Details on the game will be available before the end of January, according to a publisher representative. Until then, you’ll just have this to speculate upon:

This game has been added to Gone Cardboard.

I’m glad they’ve done away with the old box template wit the 2 thick bars on top and right. It was very recognisable, and also very ugly.

The logo seems to be more reminiscent of the original AH logo, maybe they intend to go back more in that direction with their selection of games?

The new AH logo looks like the History Channel’s logo.

Any word on any other AH games?

Aw, man.  How sweet does this look?  This looks even better than their last remake of the game.  I may have to buy another copy…

And hurrah that Avalon Hill is back!  I hope more of the gaming community supports them this time around.

Jon asked: “Any word on any other AH games?”

The AH rep said the company would announce its 2008 line-up before the end of January, so sometime in the next few weeks we’ll see what Avalon Hill now stands for.

Here’s hoping Diplomacy isn’t the only non-Axis & Allies title in this year’s AH lineup…

I’ll tell you what. The Hasbro Avalon Hill makes some of the most inviting box covers I have seen.  Maybe even better than Days of Wonder… but probably just tied.  Nevertheless, they are very good.

Other game companies could learn alot from the ole AH.

And I really second Matt’s suggestion.  Diplomacy and Acquire are two games that AH should always maintain in print.  Both are excellent games.  This new box cover for Diplomacy is so inviting, I may even try it out in my “mainstream” game collection.

(I have two collections:  my mainstream collection where I will bring the game out for anyone: 27 games… and my “just the guys” games that I bring out for close guy friends that can handle a deeper game: 6 games.)

Those six games:

1. Napoleon in Europe (never played yet)
2. Conquest of the Empire (my favorite)
3. Shogun (Wallenstein version)
4. Diplomacy (love this too)
5. Fire and Axe (itching to play)
6. Samurai Swords (itching to play)
