Fantasy Flight Hooks Up with Games Workshop

Fantasy Flight Games has announced a deal with Games Workshop in which FFG will become the exclusive publisher of board, card, and roleplaying games based on GW properties. What’s more, FFG will have exclusive rights to publish new versions of titles that have appeared from GW over the past 25 years. A second agreement with Sabertooth Games, which is part of GW, will bring publication rights for the Universal Fighting System CCG to Fantasy Flight.

In terms of recent productions, FFG will take over Talisman, the fourth edition of which appeared in October 2007 from Black Industries, which is part of GW. Fantasy Flight will produce a new printing of the game as well as expansions. FFG will also produce and support the UFS CCG, the Warhammer Fantasy RPG, and the Dark Heresy RPG. (In January 2008, Black Industries had announced that it would not support Dark Heresy past September 2008, depite selling out the base rulebook only days after its release, to much displeasure from fans and retailers.)

This agreement does not include games like Blood Bowl and Space Hulk in which miniatures play a predominant role. Details of FFG’s publication plans will be announced later.

Bummer… I’d love to see an FFG reprint of Blood Bowl.

Maybe the Blood Bowl game can get a new treatment by GW now that there is less on their plate with better focus?

Fantasy Borg :)

I do think this is a good thing for the people who love these games, as FFG is almost certain to give MUCH better support for their games.

Look like my new, unplayed copy of Talisman is already obsolete.  At least the new version will have minatures.  I hope they address gameplay issues.

Talisman and gameplay issues? Talisman is simple roll and move, there is not that much gameplay in it IMHO

The press release from FFG mentioned a new printing of Talisman, not a new edition of it, so I would think that the 4th edition design would be kept and carried over into any expansions. We’ll see…

Well I wish they’d do a proper new edition of Talisman rather than just Talisman 2nd Edition, 2nd Edition (aka 4th edition)
