A lot of strong games here—I know I would be pressed to decide between some of these.

I have this feeling Z-Man may fair well at Spiel

Having played all the multi-player games I say they should be ranked (from first to last):

Agricola
Race for the Galaxy
Brass
In the Year of the Dragon
Tinner’s Trail
Stone Age
Hamburgum
Pandemic
Kingsburg
Tribune

From the two-player category I’ve only played 1960 but I would probably pick it or Tzaar based on what I’ve read.

What an incredible list of games!  Every single nominated multiplayer game is a winner and I can’t really think of another design I’d like to see there.  (Maybe Wabash Cannonball, but which game would you kick out?) Tremendous job by the committee.  Of the two-player games, I would have liked to have seen Shanghaien in there, but other than that, it’s also a strong group.

As for the favorites, you have to figure that Agricola and Race for the Galaxy are the early frontrunners for the multiplayer award.  One question will be if Race has enough appeal outside of the U.S. to compete.  Brass shouldn’t be ignored and Tribune, which is much beloved in Europe, is a dark horse.  Finally, lighter games have often done well with the IGAs, but this is a pretty heavy group.  The lighest of the bunch is probably Kingsburg or Pandemic, so some consideration should be given to these.  Still, I think I’ll make the boring prediction and go with Agricola.

With the two-players, it’ll probably come down to 1960 or Tzaar.  We’ve heard less about the latest GIPF game than has been the case in the past, including awards, so I’m going to go with 1960, despite its U.S.-centric theme.

I can’t see 1960 lose in the 2 player category.

Multiplayer it’s R4TG or Agricola as the winner (probably the 2nd) with Brass jsut behind. A vey very strong selection this year, for sure.
