From the Editor: You Say Goodbye and I Say Hello
As you may have read in his column last week, Patrick Korner is stepping down as a regular columnist. Patrick has been posting since the old Gamefest days when we started this whole weekly column thing. I’ve always enjoyed his writings on the world of games and gaming (sports references notwithstanding!). He has written some classic columns - his column on the different German game publishers was excellent - one of the best columns ever posted by anyone (hopefully he’ll update it and repost it - hint, hint). Patrick’s regular columns will be missed.
We are not losing Patrick completely, though. He will be moving to ‘at large’ status where he can post his thoughts whenever he has the time and the inclination (which we hope is often). You will now find his columns in the ‘At Large Columnists’ section. Patrick is also aiming to revive his Vintage Games series of articles so you can look forward to that as well. He will also, very thankfully, continuing his translation work for things like our Essen Preview.
Though we are saying goodbye to Patrick as a regular columnist, we are also saying hello to our newest addition - Frank Branham, who will take over Patrick’s regular columnist spot on Thursdays. Frank has been a fixture in the German gaming community since the early years when he ran The Gaming Dumpster - the precursor to BoardGameGeek. The Gaming Dumpster provided translations for many early German games when English versions were practically non-existent. He is a game designer, has written many articles and reviews, and has done many translations. Frank’s knowledge of obscure games is legendary and I’m sure he’ll be taking the time to tell you about more than a few hidden treasures (Prophecy, perhaps, Frank?). Last, but certainly not least, he is a great guy and a great gamer. It’s a great pleasure to have him with us. Welcome aboard, Frank!
