Fun and Fundraising at Unity Games XIV, Jan. 26 2008
Anyone living in New England in the U.S. is eagerly anticipating a glorious event that is almost upon them. No, I’m not talking about a reappearance of the Patriots in the Super Bowl with Tom Brady healing the sick during halftime. I’m talking about Unity Games XIV, a 15-hour public gaming event. The first UG event drew 44 people; now 200-300 people show up, depending on the season.
While fun is the focus of the day, the event also has a serious side, as Craig Massey, one of the vent organizers, explains:
| During the last three winter UG events, one of the highlights has been a charity auction of game lots both old and new. A bunch of gamers take home new games, and a nice sum of money is raised for charity—more than $2,400 at the past two auctions, with the proceeds being donated to The Jimmy Fund and the organization it supports, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Given the work that this Institute has done since 1948 to fight cancer in adults and especially children, it seems appropriate to donate funds from a game auction to support this important cause.
We’re still looking for games and game-related items for the auction. If you want to donate, please contact me via the comments section of this post and I will email you. We hope to exceed our high water mark of $1,300, and with many fantastic lots in hand, this is an attainable goal. If you are in the Boston area on Saturday, January 26th, please make sure to stop by, play a game, and support a great cause. |
Yes, a copy of the Caylus Premium Edition is up for auction, and with this puppy retailing for $150 at some stores, you can donate to a great cause and net yourself a thing of beauty at the same time.
