News Flash: Funagain Buys Eagle Games Assets - A Statement from Funagain
Funagain has released a statement concerning their acquiring the assets of Eagle Games. Here is the relevant portion of the press release:
| On August 4th 2006, Funagain Games acquired the entire line of Eagle Games inventory. Eagle Games is known for its high-quality historical strategy games containing wonderfully detailed plastic components and beautifully illustrated game boards. “Funagain is excited to continue to bring the Eagle Games line to the gaming community, as they are some of our favorite titles, and we also look forward to the possibility of future Eagle titles, said Nick Medinger, Operations Manager for Funagain Games.
The acquisition ensures that current Eagle Games products will continue to be available to fans of the line. Along with acquiring the inventory Funagain has lowered the manufacturers suggested retail price for many of the titles. The following, lowered MSRPs are effective immediately:
Bootleggers $31.95
Funagain will continue to provide the entire Eagle Games line on its website, www.funagain.com. Funagain will also distribute the Eagle Games line to select retailers through its new FRED network. If you are a retailer interested in carrying the Eagle Games line, inquiries about FRED should be directed to chads@funagain.com. |

Hm. No mention of who has the IP...just the inventory. Unless I’m missing something in the reference to “the possibility of future Eagle titles.” Posted by Alfred Wallace on Aug 17, 2006 at 11:13 AM | #

Valrie and Alfred, Keith Blume owns the rights to the website. I believe that Age of Empires III is not in the package purchased by Funagain. But I could be wrong. Games in the devlopmental chain, could go in a number of directions. Everyone talks about Pirates! I believe that design in in the hands of SDR Games right now… so it will be interesting to see how things proceed. Funagain is a good buyer for this situation (for a number of reasons) and I would think it logical that Keith Blume and Funagain will work in informal partnership with each other. I know Keith is also looking for something more permanent, so any game company that is smart enough to snatch him up would be very lucky indeed. Keith has a very strong, conservative business mind… he wasn’t the person making the major business decisions at Eagle Games. He deserves another chance in this business, and I hope others come to that same conclusion. Posted by Ryan Bretsch on Aug 17, 2006 at 02:25 PM | #

I’ll second Ryan on this. Of all the PR people that I’ve dealt with from game companies, Keith was the absolute best (and that’s in a field filled with tremendous, friendly people!) Also, rumor has it (looking at the ceiling) that some companies are interested in AOE III. All I can say is that I’m fairly excited… Posted by Tom Vasel on Aug 18, 2006 at 12:33 AM | #
