Game Preview: Colosseum

Days of Wonder won’t be releasing the rules for Wolfgang Kramer’s and Markus Lübke’s Colosseum for a while yet, but with close to a dozen images to show off from this March 2007 release, a game preview seemed the appropriate choice.

We’ll update this preview and bump it once the rules make an appearance. For now, make of these images what you will, perhaps by guessing in the comment section:

Well, the board sure doesn’t give any hint to how the game is played.  Hmm.

I know it’s wildly impractical and doesn’t seem at all thematic, but I sure hope the final version includes those mini-umbrellas!

I’m all over those drink umbrellas… I hope they represent the classiness of one’s refreshment stands…

That reminds me of a design contest Andrea Meyer and a couple other designers do each year at the Gathering of Friends where they buy a bunch of Hobby Lobby junk and see who can come up with the best prototype.

It always sounded like fun.  Maybe Boardgamenews should try doing that--Frank Branham could even pick out the game bits!
