Three years after the launch of Memoir ‘44, the battle gets taken to the skies with the Air Pack expansion. Air Pack includes eight painted airplane miniatures, with rules for how to incorporate them into any of the published or homemade scenarios. Designer Richard Borg says that adding airplanes to existing scenarios tweaks them in interesting ways, yet the air power doesn’t dominate the battle and make the ground forces to an afterthought.

What’s more, all of the published scenarios from the base game and the expansion packs (Terrain Pack, Eastern Front, Pacific Theater) have been revised and assembled into a single glossy book. Borg points out that the terrain and other tiles that didn’t exist when the main game was published have now been incorporated into the scenarios.

Sainte-Mère-Eglise, for example, now has an actual church with special characters instead of generic town tiles. Saverne Gap now includes roads that were present on the battlefield. “When we first published this scenario, we had to do so without the roads,” says Borg, because it wouldn’t be feasible to include all of the tiles needed. “As we did the terrain packs, we replayed the scenarios in their original form as we had designed them.”

Rounding out the Air Pack is a deck of 120 revised summary cards for each bit of terrain and troop that’s been introduced to the game, with revised graphics to make them easier to use. While pros might not need a deck like this, it’s invaluable for those who are learning the game or stepping into one of the expansions.

This is probably the winter release I’m most excited about… not only does it add some pretty nifty air rules (you can read the rulebook as a pdf on the DoW site) but the added terrain tiles & revamp of the scenarios means that they went back and colored in all the pictures (so to speak!)

Woo hoo! Thanks to Richard & Dow!

Looking good.  I hope that the scenario booklet will also include the official scenarios released on the internet.

It does… there’s an excellent overview (not that Eric’s isn’t nice, but the difference between game reporter and obsessed fan) over on the Geek (http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/248681) and it confirms that all 64 official scenarios (including the internet ones) are in the new book.

They’re now arranged in chronological order & color-coded by theater of war.

Yes, ColtsFan has received an advanced copy of Air Pack and gone over it in incredible detail on BGG. The only thing that seems to be missing from the revised scenario booklet are the Overlord scenarios.
