Game Preview: The Red Dragon Inn

By W. Eric Martin
June 14, 2007

Publisher: SlugFest Games
Designer: Cliff Bohm, Geoff Bottone, and Colleen Skadl
Players: 2-4
Ages: 13+
Playing Time: 30-60 minutes
Release Date: August 2007

The goal of many role-playing games is for the group to outlast all enemies. Your goal in The Red Dragon Inn is to outlast the rest of the group. You play one of four adventurers— Dierdre, Fiona, Gerki, or Zot—who have retired to the Inn after a long hard day of slaying ogres and pilfering treasure, and your goal is to have plenty of fun at the bar, but not too much fun. Here’s the short description:

Drink, gamble, and roughhouse with your friends. But don’t forget to keep an eye on your Gold. If you run out, you’ll have to spend the night in the stables. Oh… and try not to get too beaten up or too drunk. If you black out, your friends will continue the party without you… after they loot your body for Gold of course! The last conscious adventurer with Gold wins the game!

Each of the four characters has his or her own deck, although they’ll drink together from a common Drink deck, tracking their Fortitude and Alcohol Content as they do so.

SlugFest Games plans to have copies of The Red Dragon Inn on sale at Origins, although the general release of the game will likely come in August 2007. Play responsibly.
