Gaming Freebies from the Austrians at Spiel 08

The Austrian association Spielen in Österreich will once again have free items for Spiel 08 attendees who do their part to promote Austria while at the convention. Last year, you were asked to wear a button; this year, I think you go topless with the Austrian flag painted across your chest. Or maybe that was just a dream I had?

In any case, Spielen in Österreich will have four items available at no charge:

  • Two scenarios for Settlers of Catan on one sheet
  • A Perry Rhodan-themed board for Monopoly
  • An add-on for Deukalion, by Austrian designer Arno Steinwender
  • An add-on for Spiel des Jahres-nominated Wie verhext!, by Austrian designer Andreas Pelikan

In addition to these items, Spielen in Österreich will produce a full-color Handbook of Games, which Ferdinand de Cassan says will sell for €3. “There will be around 500 game descriptions with pictures for (we hope) all important games on the market,” he says.

Both will be based on the Diskworld szenario! One directly in Ankh Morpork (The Guilds of Ankh Morpork) the other one is based on the first novel (Rincewind and the tourist). Both designed by Heike and Stefan Risthaus and wonderfully illustrated by Andreas Resch.
