Gone Cardboard: Assyria, Coming from Ystari and Rio Grande

Ystari Games has announced its Spiel 09 release: Assyria, by Emanuele Ornella. Ystari owner Cyril Demaegd provides this description of the game, “In Assyria, each player will lead a tribe through the desert. The goal of each tribe is to survive (by gathering food cards) and to build wells and ziggurats. The game spans over three reigns, with a flood in between each reign. As usual, there will be many different strategies and many ways to score points!”

Assyria is for 2-4 players, and unlike Ystari’s most recent release, Demaegd’s own Bombay, which was distributed by Asmodee, the English version of Assyria will be produced by Rio Grande Games. This game has been added to Gone Cardboard.

...and, more importantly, it has both a “Y” and an “S” in the name, which means it will be a good game, right?

Yeah, Bombay didn’t get an SdJ nomination, so that experiment in nomenclature is over!

...not to mention box size. :)

I’m sorry but you’re all wrong !

There will be other square boxes, without Y & S (the next one is already planned).

And of course the SdJ was not in my mind. I think Bombay is too complicated nowadays, Fauna is a better candidate…

Cyril

It was on my mind, Cyril--I picked Bombay to make the SdJ short list!  But I’m really looking forward to hearing details about Assyria.  Ystari + Ornella sounds like a great combination!

Cyril, don’t get me wrong - I honestly have not yet gotten Bombay to the table, so I am not really in a position to judge it yet. What I have heard from many people whose taste I trust has bumped it down in my prioritized list of games.

On the other hand, I agree with Larry - Ystari is still on my list of publishers that I will automatically consider buying and Emanuele Ornella’s past designs have proven quite enjoyable for me.

Grats Emanuele :-)

I think the rule is if the game has a Y and an S (with the Y coming first in the title and the S later on) the game is good.

Caylus, Yspahan, Mykerinos, Ys, Amyitis, Metropolys.

So by my theory Assyria will be ultimately forgettable (besides the fact it has “ass” in the title). But we will see!

Added to Gone Cardboard.
Where? I don’t see it.

Scott, the updated Gone Cardboard file is now in place.

I’d prefer that Ystari’s next game be called something like “Høç#” or “∞!” to kill this name thing once and for all. Any chance of that happening, Cyril?

I did it with Bombay, with no success apparently ;)

This Y and S thing is just a game for me, but apparently there’s always someone who wants to give this minor fact more importance than it needs.

Doesn’t matter, i prefer to answer with the quality of my games…

Regards,
Cyril

Feh, how annoying – I deleted the spam account. Maybe I’ll need to change the sign-up requirements in the future…
