Gone Cardboard News: A New Trio of Games from Strategic Space

In my mid-February 2008 Toy Fair blitz, the final reports of which are still coming, I somehow overlooked the Strategic Space booth. Mark Salzwedel was showing off three titles that his fledgling company released in September 2007 – 4th Corner, Zombie Attack, and Deer Hunter 2050 – while demoing a trio of titles due in 2008. These titles are:

  • Samsara: A pure abstract strategy game in which you use your five followers to convert those of other players to your calling, namely by outnumbering and assimilating them. Samsara plays with 2-8, retails for $20, and is due out in May 2008.

  • Star Hopper: A family-style race game to colonize planets that includes a 46-page (!) rulebook. Thankfully only two of those pages contain rules, while the other 44 have info about the astronomical bodies included in the game. Star Hopper is for 2-6 players with a $25 retail price and a May 2008 release date.

  • Master Spy: A retro-looking game (complete with forehead slapping!) that seems to cross elements of Battleship and Scotland Yard, as players have a group of spies that they move around a hidden pegboard, trying to locate and capture spies controlled by opponents. Master Spy is due out no earlier than June 2008, retails for $30 and is for 2-4 players, with expansions for up to six players to be sold separately.

Salzwedel notes that the covers of Master Spy and Star Hopper are placeholders for now. These games have been added to Gone Cardboard.
