Another card from the new 24 card Z deck for Agricola, due out with the new edition of the game in late June or early July:

I admit that this card bothered me.  When I first learned of AGRICOLA and its vast number of cards I felt that there was no way these cards could be evenly matched and that one’s success in a game would depend more on the cards one was dealt rather than skill in play.

But I changed my mind when I played the game.  With a very few exceptions the cards do no more than ‘shape’ one’s game.  None seems to be excessively powerful.

But this new card seems to negate my findings.  Getting more family members is, in my experience, an important way of winning (or, rather, NOT getting them seems to be a sure way of losing!) So I’d be over the moon if I found I had been dealt this ‘twins’ card.

Personally I’d bin it.

I don’t know, Derek; paying three food to grab another mouth to feed would likely have you skirting the edge of begging. You can run your early game to set yourself up for this card—as I’ve done sometimes—and in the end all the effort needed to pull out a killer card seems to hamper your growth in other areas. You might be right, but I don’t think the card is as much an auto-win as you might think.

It doesn’t seem overpowered to me at all.  Keep in mind that you can only make 3 children per game.  In other words, you can use this card only once.  And it is costly to get that extra child: 3 food plus one Occupation.  And if you use it early, to get your first two children, you’ll still need to expand your house to 5 spaces before you can have your third (unless you wait for the late game action card).  It’s useful, but not overpowered because of the significant cost.
