Gone Cardboard News: Cartel - Coming Again from Winning Moves

If you happen to be in Massachusetts on January 26, you can attend Unity Games XIV and get a first look at a new version of Cartel, designed by Phil Orbanes and first published by Gamut of Games.

Says Joe Sequino, VP of Marketing for Winning Moves, “This is based off the original version. There are no event cards like what Priceless had. We had talked about adding them (and still might as a variant), but it seemed like many people on BGG and from what we had remembered didn’t like the event cards, as they tended to add too much randomness.

Although the final design is still in the works, the new Cartel should look much like the old one. “We’ve had to change some company names and we’ve changed up some colors some, but layout-wise, it’s going to look fairly similar,” says Sequino. The new design will be released under Winning Moves’ Immortal Eyes Games label sometime in 2008.

This game has been added to Gone Cardboard.

I’ll definitely be checking this out (not at Unity Games, sadly, but when it comes out).  I always thought Cartel was decades ahead of its time, so now I guess we’ll see if I was right.  And I’m glad they’re keeping the same appearance--it was also a very cool looking game.
