Gone Cardboard News: Lascaux - Coming from Mayfair Games
Mayfair Games will release Lascaux, first published in German by Phalanx Games, sometime in the first quarter of 2008. Where does the “Lascaux” name originate? In 1940, four adolescents in the southwest of France near Lascaux discovered a collection of caves, caves that are now famous for their paintings—images of animals that lived thousands of years before our era, possibly between 13,000 and 17,000 years ago.

In Lascaux, the game, players place a number of cards in the center of the table to start each turn. Each card is identified by an animal and two colors. Each player secretly chooses a color and places stones in the center of the table. As the round progresses, players will drop out and someone will end up winning the animal cards to close the turn. At the end of the game, players score points for the animals of which they have a majority, and the player with the highest score wins.
Lascaux, designed by Dominique Ehrhard and Michel Lalet (and not Philippe des Pallières as previously reported), is for 3-5 players, ages 8+, with a playing time of 25 minutes. The retail price is $30. This game has been added to Gone Cardboard.
