Gone Cardboard News: Sortie - World War II Dogfighting from Front Porch
Front Porch Classics is releasing Sortie, a World War II dogfighting game, in March 2007, just a couple of months before Wings of War enters the same era. Here’s a description of Sortie from Front Porch:
| The year is 1943. From Asia to England, and all places in between, Axis and Allied pilots put their daring, skill and nerve to the test in a fight for air supremacy; the prize being nothing less than the fate of the world. In Front Porch Classics’ new adventure game Sortie, players simultaneously play cards that authentically simulate the thrill and exhilaration of World War II dog fighting. Cast metal planes, a segmented wood playing surface and more than 100 playing cards combine to give you a taste of what it was like behind the cockpits of the fighting machines of yesteryear. This dog- fighting game comes packaged in an elegant all wood book-style box. For two to six players, ages eight and up. Estimated retail price is $49.95. |
No images were available from Front Porch, but the company will be at New York Toy Fair, so look for pics in a few days. This game has been added to Gone Cardboard.

Found a pic at: http://www.toydirectory.com/monthly/ToyShow/toyshow.asp?id=266&cat=46 About halfway down. It looks like a rather nice version of Sopwith. Sopwith is the direct ancestor to Wings of War and Aerodrome, but is a much simpler game than both of those. Posted by Frank Branham on Feb 10, 2007 at 04:39 PM | #
