Gone Cardboard News: The Club, Coming from FRED

FRED Distribution will release The Club, from Finnish designer Jussi Autio, at Spiel 08 in October. For those who have put their clubbing days behind them, this game will either be a blast from the past or a sour reminder of days best forgotten.

The 7x7 dance floor starts off populated with random dancers, each of which has three qualities on it: musical taste, appearance, and readiness to party. You’ll add new dancers to the outer edge of the grid, trying to form couples in the center of the dance floor who share at least one quality. You score 1, 3 or 5 points for each hook-up, with that number possibly modified by the couple’s drunkenness and hidden qualities on the reverse side of each tile. Will she turn out to be heartbroken? Will he be living with his mother? You see the hidden qualities of those you push onto the club floor, but as in life everyone else is a mystery waiting to be discovered!
