Gone Cardboard News: The Market of Alturien - Coming from Mayfair

Mayfair Games has announced the impending release of The Market of Alturien, which is Wolfgang Kramer’s new version of one of his older games, City. Here’s a description of the new game from the publisher:

The medieval marketplace of Alturien is awash in intrigue and action. As many as six different merchant families compete in a merciless trade battle. All seek wealth, influence, and power.

In “Alturien”, your merchants vie for the attention of seven unique trader customers of varying wealth. They stroll the market, while you entice them to ignore your rivals and buy your wares. Using your income, you build new trading halls and create your own mercantile empire.

But beware! One of the customers is Gustavo the Weasel! He steals from the rich and gives to the poor. Watch out if you’re prosperous for Gustavo is a wily crook! If you’re the first merchant to acquire sufficient wealth and three prestigious prizes, you rise to a noble rank and win the game!

The Market of Alturien retails for $45, accomodates 2-6 players from ages 10 and up, and plays in 60 minutes. This game has been added to Gone Cardboard.

I was amazed when I saw the box size of this game last weekend. It’s much bigger than I expected. I guess all Alturien games will be so big?

Well, given that the second game in the series, Die Haupstadt von Alturien, is a reprint of Big Boss, yes, I would say that the massive box size thing will probably continue :)

(For those who haven’t seen Big Boss in the flesh...err...cardboard, the box is a small armoire.)

I’ll buy it.....

once they give the game some better paper money, and they get rid of the pink colored bits

I wouldn’t mind spending a few more dollars for great material throughout.
