Gone Cardboard News: Ys+ – Coming in June from Rio Grande

Ystari Games debuted in 2004 with Cyril Demaegd’s Ys, which was followed the next year by Ys+, an expansion that allowed five players to play. Jay Tummelson, who later released Ys through Rio Grande Games, has said multiple times that he planned to release Ys+ as well at some point. That day has almost come, as Ys+ now has a June release date from RGG, and the rules can be downloaded from the company’s Ys+ webpage. Ys+, which retails for $25, includes a dozen new character cards, 14 event cards, 14 blue tokens for the fifth player, 22 gem cards, and a half-dozen player aids.

This game has been added to Gone Cardboard.

I should add that Ys+ will come along with the new edition of Ys, which will include new plastic gems (like the gems of Niagara), new player screens (with the player aid included) and new engraved brokers (no need to stick 50+ stickers anymore).

So just to clarify, Cyril, you can buy Ys+ on its own, or you can buy Ys and receive Ys+ for free within the box? I received a notice about the expansion, but not about the base game.

Unfortunately not ;)

Ys will be a standalone and so will be Ys+, they’re sold separately (for cost reasons it was not possible to include Ys+ in the regular game).

Okay, so by “come along with,” you mean “published at the same time as”—not “packaged with” which is what I thought you meant. Ys has been out of stock for a while, so it’s good to see it come back. Presumably the pieces in Ys+ match this new edition and not earlier ones?

You’re right, sorry for this lack of precision.

About the pieces, they’re compatible with both editions (same size). The only difference is that the numbers are now directly engraved on the broker. So you don’t have to stick anything before playing…

And i forgot to mention (but it was obvious) : there’s a new cover too!
