Gone Cardboard News: Z-Man Games Taking Preorders for English Agricola

Lookout Games, publishers of Agricola, has said that Z-Man Games has first shot at an English edition of the game. After much juggling of numbers and factoring of exchange rates, Z-Man is now taking preorders for an English edition of Agricola. Here’s Zev Shlasinger with the details:

The preorder price for Agricola is $60 plus shipping ($15 for U.S. customers, $25 for Canadian customers and $33 for everyone else). The regular (MSRP) price of the game will be $70. As an added incentive, any preordered games will come with a special 24-card promo deck containing new Minor Improvement and Occupation cards to be used with the game. These cards might be available in a future expansion, at cons, and/or through retailers, but for sure you will get this special item free if you preorder the game.

To preorder Agricola you need to email me your credit card info to sales AT zmangames DOT com with “AGRICOLA PREORDER” in the subject header. We will not charge your card until the files go to the printer: your preorder gives us permission to charge your card at that time.

If you do not have a credit card, are afraid of sending card details through email, or are really eager to show your support of this production, you may send a paypal payment ($60 plus the shipping outlined above) to sales AT zmangames DOT com (and mention “AGRICOLA PREORDER"). If production has not started by April, we will refund your money.

Z-Man Games needs to receive 750 preorders before the game can head to the printers, and the April target date mentioned above is the earliest that the game would appear, assuming that 750 preorders are placed by the end of December 2007.

This game has been added to Gone Cardboard!

Fantastic!  A nice early Christmas present for gamers.  I’ll be sending in my preorder as soon as I get home.

Just to make sure that everyone knows what this represents, the $60 plus shipping buys you an English language version of the current game?  With all three Occupation and Minor Improvement decks?  Zev was floating various options around the Geek, so I thought it would be good to get this clarified.

A big round of applause to Zev and Hanno for getting this done.  I know you both put in a lot of hard work to get to this point and I’m certain it will be rewarded by a large number of preorders.

Based on the thread on BGG, this one may hit the 750 mark very quickly. I was planning on ordering my copy *after* BGG.Con, but I could not take the chance at missing out on the free cards! I will echo Larry’s kudos - this is very good news and marks a major move for both Z-Man and Lookout.

From BGG thread
1) It is in English - American English.

2) It contains all the cards (E, K(C) and I)

Because of the security concern of sending CC info in an email.  Zev also later included these other ways to send payment:
a) you can fax your CC details to 8452083503
b) you can send check or MO to Z-Man Games, 6 Alan Drive, Mahopac, NY 10541.

Larry: English edition, 3 decks. Also 24-card promotional deck of NEW Minor Improvement & Occupation cards - people seem to be missing that in their excitement about the new edition.

Oh, I’m feeling the excitement all right because I can’t wait to add another 24 cards to the supremely awesome mix that already exists! I played a three-player game last night and rocked out with great herds that made up for my tiny house and empty grounds. Still haven’t tried the solo game yet, but soon…

And another thing we’re all forgetting, Melissa, but which Robert pointed out--AMERICAN English (is there any other kind?)!  Death to superfluous u’s!  ;-)

(I wait patiently while the weight of the REST of the English speaking world comes crashing down on my cranium!)

I’m not forgetting it, Larry.

I weep for my abandoned ploughs, left rusting while the plows do their work.

A moment while we honour the fallen u’s…

But if the Minor Improvements get switched into Lite Improvements, I’ll, I’ll…

...rail powerlessly into the sprawling void that is the ‘net.  Sigh.  :)

For the benefit of fellow Brits (plus non-German speakers in the EU) I’m hoping that Zev - who I assume already has Z-Man distribution set up in the EU - will allow us to place pre-orders and receive the game via his distributor.

This or some other arrangement (perhaps a quantity delivered direct into the EU from the manufacturers as opposed to all going via the US)because an additional $33 postage for sending a single game plus import duty and Value Added Tax on its full retail value is all a bit uneconomic for us and could deter pre-orders.

Yet clearly we’ll want to offer our support for the project.

This game sounds so cool, I hope it get to 750 soon :).  These P500 & 750 games drive me nuts to wait for :).

Derek, welcome to our world (US that is). With the crappy dollar and shipping costs from Europe I often pay $35 to $50 or more for shipping to get games that are readily available in Europe but practically non-existent here.

I too, fully support Zev et al and their efforts on this one!!!

Yes Steve.  As soon as I made my posting I guessed somebody in the US was going to make that observation.  Fair enough.  True.

Not that that totally invalidates my point in this particular instance.  Z-Man games ARE available in the EU, so it doesn’t make sense to have a single copy sent over (unless, of course, its base price is going to be considerably cheaper).
