Hansa Teutonica in English?

Andreas Steading’s Hansa Teutonica, which German publisher Argentum Verlag released in October at Spiel 09, was one of the highest rated games at the show, in addition to being well-received at BGG.CON in November. Argentum is in talks with an English-language publishing partner for a new edition of the game, but the details are still in the works at this point. More info once the ink is dry on the contract…

I really hope it’s who I taught the game to. That would really be great.

The Argentum edition is in both German and English, and whilst not widelt available is fully playable out of the box by English speakers/readers only. And it is a very fine game too!

Thus continuing the fine tradition of “If it’s an Essen hit, it’ll get picked up for larger / North American release”.  Good news, as I’d missed getting this one sent over along with my other Essen titles.

This game definitely deserves a wider distribution in the US, let’s hope they can get the new game out fast!

I haven’t played the game, but from the reviews it sounds like this game could benefit from some time with a good developer to polish off some rough edges with the production.

I didn’t notice any problems with the production. The only real issue that has come up is with the translation, and that would be fixed in a second edition anyway.

Rough edges?  I’ve played the game 7 times now and haven’t noticed any rough edges.  Seems like a pretty streamlined and clean German-style design to me.

The rough edges I have seen mentioned in reviews are with the artwork and the board being very busy.  Again, I haven’t played or even seen the game.  But, it looks like this game deserves the best presentation possible.

Rob,

The presentation is already quite good IMHO. I particularly like the “desks” that are the player boards.

I thought the artwork on the board and the player “desks” was really good.

Greg, just double-checked with the potential U.S. partner and the negotiations are still ongoing.
