Hasbro Earns $37.5 Mil in Q1 2008
Earnings at Hasbro rose 14 percent in the first quarter of 2008, according to a story from the Associated Press, which translates to earnings of $37.5 million or 25 cents per share, nearly double what analysts had predicted. Sales of games and puzzles were up 9 percent; while that might sound impressive, compared with other divisions within Hasbro – boys brands grew 29 percent, girls brands 24 percent – games didn’t perform up to par.

How about this? “The company also completed its $68 million purchase of board game maker Cranium in the quarter and cut that company’s work force from 80 to 20 employees, Hasbro said.” Lesson to be learned: If Hasbro is out to acquire your company and you are an employee: expect efficiencies… at your expense.
