I Betcha… – Social Experiment or Game?

Montreal-based publisher Le Scorpion Masqué has sold 20,000 copies of its first game, J’te Gage Que..., since December 2006. Now designer and publisher Christian Lemay has released an English language version in an effort to reach the larger game market outside of Quebec.

In I Betcha..., each player receives a card that contains three challenges, such as sucking your thumb for 30 seconds, borrowing five dollars, or talking about Greco-Roman wrestling. The players agree to a time limit, then they go on doing whatever else they want, such as eating dinner or playing another game. If you can do a challenge while being witnessed by someone else – but without them calling you on it – you score points; you can accuse someone of trying to complete a challenge, but you lose points if you’re wrong. The player with the most points once time runs out wins.

Sounds like a great game for Neil Edge, given his love of Quelf! As for those of us who don’t do random things eight times an hour, how would we ever pull this off?

Have you seen their SECOND game? Climb!

A demented rock climbing game using cards with holes in them. You maneuver by walking a layout of cards with your fingers, with certain restrictions.

Speed, Dexterity, and puzzles. So far the only place I know that stocks it is Le Valet des Cours.
