Igel Argern Coming to Nintendo DS
More and more board games are making the leap to video formats so I guess I’m gonna have to ditch my Atari 2600 and buy one of these new fangled machines someday.

Igel Argern is the latest Eurogame to be transformed into a video game. At the end of March 2008, Hurry Up Hedgehog! will appear for the Nintendo DS from Oxygen Games in the UK. The variety of the original is kept through five rule options that mix and match to allow for 32 different ways to play. You can play alone on one DS or through a network to compete against others, and the game supports 1-6 players, whether human or robot. Pics after the jump…

Eric. Go buy a DS now. Then buy a copy of Professor Layton. Then buy a copy of Puzzle Quest. While the Wii gets all this credit as the casual gamer and pick up and play press, the DS has been making puzzle games and board game-ish things, and keeping the point and click adventure games alive for a couple of years. Professor Layton is a set of 150+ puzzles woven around a very Miyazaki-like mysterious town story. It is gorgeous, addictive, and there are sequels out in Japan. Puzzle Quest is like Bejeweled converted into a board game, then mixed with a Japanese style RPG. Each combat is a duel on a Bejeweled board where the pattern you make has some effect on the opponent. Winning duels gets you items and spells that give you special effects in future duels. So it is like a simple abstract board game that is slowly evolving over time. Posted by Frank Branham on Feb 28, 2008 at 10:29 AM | #

Eric, no need to dump your Atari 2600. There is an 2600 emulator for the DS called StellaDS.
I agree 100% with Frank. Those two games are great! Posted by Jeph Stahl on Feb 28, 2008 at 01:58 PM | #

Funny that the DS version is for 3+
It must take 5 years for youngsters to learn how to push real tokens around. Posted by Jeph Stahl on Feb 28, 2008 at 04:15 PM | #

Holy cow! I love this game, and I’ve always thought it would make a great portable game. (I was leaning towards a Palm implementation.) And Frank’s right: Puzzle Quest is incredible, and should have great appeal to the sort of folks that frequent this site. Posted by Jesse Wood on Feb 28, 2008 at 08:40 PM | #

I’ll fourth (or is it fifth) Puzzle Quest. Great game. In addition to Picross, younger gamers might want to check out QuickSpot - basically a series of speed tests where you circle the difference between a picture in the top and bottom screens… sort of a high speed search & find… Posted by Matt J.
