JESS: World Play Day
Today is the World Play Day. If we want an official day dedicated to gaming, maybe that’s the way.

The idea for this day was born from the International Toy Library Association (ITLA) in its 1998 asambly, in Seul. The date, May 28, was chosen because ITLA was born in this day of the year.

They are working on the official recognition of this international World Play Day by the United Nations. This day, and the whole week, there are gaming activities in many countries all around the world. In the WPD website, you can read the WORLD PLAY DAY MESSAGE and listen the World Play Day Song. The Spanish WPD webpage is nicer, but in Spanish.

For the moment, the World Play Day is mainly focused on the children – but this is only the beginning. We are a boardgame association (Jugamos Tod@s) in Spain, and this year we have joined the World Play Day celebrations with our games for adult persons. It could be very good to have a special day in the official calendar of the year, it could be a good help to make our gaming hobby more visible in our society.
The work for the World Play Day is in the beginning, but we can do it together.
Today: Make somebody to play a boardgame. Happy international World Play Day!
