Leader 1 – A New Cycling Game from Ghenos
Italian publisher Ghenos Games is releasing a new cycling game in July called Leader 1; Blackrock Editions will distribute the game in France. The designers, Alain Ollier and Christophe Leclercq, have supposedly been working on this game for 16 years, and Ghenos notes that the game includes no dice or cards to determine the movement of the cyclists.

I’ve been a fan of John Harrington’s Breaking Away for years, so I’m looking forward to learning more. I’ll pass on details once I have them.

That really is great news Eric. Good race games are always fun and a few cycling race games have been outstanding. The first to amaze us was HOMAS TOUR (subsequently reprinted with a name I’ve forgotten). This was followed by the highly enjoyable 6-TAG RENNEN, which, like HOMAS TOUR, is still popular with our group. Then, as you mention, the totally superb BREAKING AWAY. But there is another that few people know about simply because it was, I believe, published as an advertising promotional game. It was called TOURSPEL. Like HOMAS TOUR a Dutch game I believe. Of course, there were many more but those mentioned above were ones that really ‘hit the spot’. But I do hope that the new Ghenos title still tries to retain the excitement of a race. The clever movement system used in their BOLLIDE is excellent up to a point but it makes for a very ponderous race and was rejected by our group many years ago for that very reason (the movement system was known so one could easily make one’s own boards). Ghenos introduced an improvement into the system but for a car racing game it is still very s-l-o-w. Derek Posted by Derek Carver on May 22, 2008 at 05:01 AM | #

Thanks Patrick. I’m not surprised I didn’t remember the name! Derek Posted by Derek Carver on May 22, 2008 at 06:03 PM | #
