Mattel Counters Hasbro’s Marvel Heroscape with DC Battleague
Comic publishers Marvel and DC have played the game of “me too” for decades, so it’s no surprise to see a new DC-based game spring up just as Marvel Heroscape is about to hit the market. DC Battleleague is a CMG game in which players try to knock over their opponent’s figures by using power tokens and weapons on their figures. Figures are sold in both starter packs and boosters, and the packages convert into battlefield buildings, presumably to provide cover for the heros and villains from flying batterangs and the like.
Strangely enough, my brother and I used to play the abstract game All The King’s Men (aka Smess) by flicking pieces at the opposing side and trying to knock down figures as if they were table skittles. Who knew this talent could have landed us jobs with Mattel?

It’s more like Attacktix, not much like Heroscape, imo. Posted by Olivier Reix on Feb 22, 2007 at 09:03 AM | #

Good catch, Olivier. I guess DC Heroland is still in the works. Posted by W. Eric Martin on Feb 22, 2007 at 09:12 AM | #
