They could be mother and son, the way Lynette Jagoda, 41, and 12-year-old Jacob Brooks combine their brainpower to tackle Ingenious, the U.S. version of the German board game Einfach Genial.

“It can’t be green-yellow, can it?” Jagoda asked, contemplating which double-colored piece to place in the puzzle game that plays a bit like dominoes.

“No, no! Play this!” Brooks said, hunching in even closer to the board.
